Abstract

Here, we developed a cheap and easy-synthesis hydrogel based on a cellulose-chitosan matrix crosslinked with citric acid with a high crystallization profile due to their reinforcement with highly biocompatible polyethylene glycol (PEG) using a modified freezing-thawing procedure encapsulating curcumin as a possible material for wound healing applications. The chemical composition, crystallinity and rheological characterization of the hydrogel were determined by FT-IR, XRD and Rotational Tests respectively. Additional adsorption studies, swelling capacity tests and a diffusion model were performed simultaneously. Finally, loading and drug release efficiency of curcumin in the system were determined using UV-Vis spectroscopy.
